May I add a few titles to this illustrious list? I too, loved "Black Orpheus" and it's images haunted me for a long time. I recently saw a new film, "Hidden Colors", that blew my mind. It is a 'must see.' Also, "At the River I Stand" is an excellent documentary about the climax of the Civil Rights Movement leading up to the assassination of MLK. Finally, "500 Years Later", chronicles the struggle of a people who have fought and continue to fight, for the most essential human right - self determination. Looking forward to more additions to the list. We try to screen at least one film per month to raise consciousness and awareness among our people.

Oh, I can't leave without mentioning "Black Orpheus" starring Marpessa Dawn and Breno Mello. The film won an Oscar in 1958. Marpessa, a lovely Afro-Brazilian, died in 2008. Oddly her co-star, Breno, died 41 days before the death of Marpessa. I often wonder if he returned for her.

This is my first time coming to this group. I see many of my favorites listed here. Let me add the films "Burn" starring Marlon Brando and "Sankofa" by film maker Haile Gerima. There are so many more, but I'll have to get back to you guys.

I've been hearing about it to and I always give every film maker a chance before I comment on the work that they do. This one looks serious so yes I'm going to see it. It will be a change from what he has done already. At least I hope so.
