Thank you to Living Legacy member Wes Barnard for inspiring this group!
The UBUNTU Symbol above was designed as an icon to represent the strength and power of the Ubuntu Spirit.
A person with Ubuntu is open and available to others, affirming of others, does not feel threatened that others are able and good, for he or she has a proper self-assurance that comes from knowing that he or she belongs in a greater whole and is diminished when others are humiliated or diminished, when others are tortured or oppressed. One of the sayings in our country is Ubuntu - the essence of being human. Ubuntu speaks particularly about the fact that you can't exist as a human being in isolation. It speaks about our interconnectedness. You can't be human all by yourself, and when you have this quality - Ubuntu - you are known for your generosity. We think of ourselves far too frequently as just individuals, separated from one another, whereas you are connected and what you do affects the whole world. When you do well, it spreads out; it is for the whole of humanity.
Africa - the birth place of all humanity. The cultural link to universal knowledge and wisdom.
The Sun - the ultimate star that provides us with light and life. The spirit of Ubuntu mirrors the light of the sun. Powering and nurturing life on our planet.
The Moon - represents the passing of time and the guiding light in times of darkness. Also implies an ability to influence the flow of life giving waters.
The Golden Circle - the circle of life that connects all things. The family circle of humankind.
Yellow Disk - the power and energy of the sun in all things to be used for the good of all things.
Green Disk - all the natural elements of the planet that sustain us and inspire our imaginations. We should develope a greater appreciation for the natural world.
Red Disk - Blood of those who sacrificed before us and gave all for all. Never should we forget their life of service for those of us who are here and the generations to come.
