Alternative Directions

Religion is generally defined as a belief system concerning the supernatural, sacred or divine, and practices, values, institutions and rituals associated with such beliefs. Some religions also have a moral code. The evolution and the history of the first religions have recently become areas of active scientific investigation. However, in the course of its development, religion has taken on many forms that vary by culture and individual perspective. Some of the chief questions and issues religions are concerned with include life after death (commonly involving belief in an afterlife), the origin of life, the nature of the universe (religious cosmology) and its ultimate fate (eschatology), and what is moral or immoral. A common source in religions for answers to these questions are beliefs in transcendent divine beings such as deities or a singular God, although not all religions are theistic—many are nontheistic or ambiguous on the topic, particularly among the Eastern religions.
Spirituality, belief or involvement in matters of the soul or spirit, is one of the many different approaches humans take in trying to answer fundamental questions about humankind's place in the universe, the meaning of life, and the ideal way to live one's life. Though these topics have also been addressed by philosophy, and to some extent by science, spirituality is unique in that it focuses on mystical or supernatural concepts such as karma and God. There are many new areas of research and study that have taken place in recent history that shed new light on our views about who we are as spiritual beings.
No matter where we are on the planet there is a commonality of connectedness that can not be ignored.
We all feel each other's moments of happiness and we feel the pain and suffering.
We are one!

@ Dana...I agree with you. We actually know far too little. True knowledge should lead to a measure of wisdom (the understanding of how said knowledge is to be applied). Without understanding it's application all knowledge is useless. While we do live in the digital information age and there is access to an abundance of information (not all usefull), we have little understanding of how the things we learn should be applied to our daily living.

Most of the information we consider to be knowledge is actually propaganda that keeps us from knowing who we really are as individuals and as a collective human body. The historical documents that many have accepted as truth are predominately lies that support the separating of us from each other. The divisions that have been created are many and run deep through our collective psychi. However, true knowledge and wisdom can not be suppressed forever by malicious propaganda.

We are living in a great age of transition. We will see positive changes in society that have only been experienced in acient civilizations of enlightenment and we will be able to build on those changes a far better world for us all. The horrible events occuring around the world are simply growing pains that are needed in order for humanity to be moved to take the necessary the necessary steps. These events are shaking us out of a self-induced stooper. We are sobering up from our drunkened, selfishly addicted state. Our collective recovery will require much more than an abundance of knowledge. It will require that we work and work hard at undoing hundreds (perhaps thousands) of years of damage to our human spirit. We must develop and implement new ways of thinking and new ways of being...applying what we know is humane and just for all. We have to know that we have the power to bring about the necessary changes we seek. This is our faith/our confidence.

Not to promote any religion over another, I would like to share two particular expressions from the "Christian" faith, that capsulize my thoughts on working with knowledge and wisdom...the messages are thousands of years old but ring true in this moment...

Hebrews 11:1

International Standard Version

Now faith is the assurance that what we hope for will come about and the certainty that what we cannot see exists.

My thoughts are that when we are done hoping we can take action. Hoping is putting off the taking of action. I'm not saying don't hope...I'm saying don't hope without action. That would be false hope. Useless hope!

James 2:14-26

Faith Without Works Is Dead
14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? ... faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
18 ...Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? 21... 24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only...26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

@ Wes and Dana...This subject can be very difficult for many to engage, simply becuase it requires non-acceptance of established norms when it comes to religion and spirituality. In recent years I have learned a great deal about alternative approaches to understanding human connectedness to one another and the universe. There has been much written and much debate over many relatively new concepts. Much of what we consider acient writtings are recieving much support from the scientific, psychological, and bio-medical community as well.

Your insights and experiences are testimony to the facts of our true nature. We have tolerated too many divisive dogmas and religious traditions. These traditions may have had some beneficial influence on our progress as humans but the traumas of that influnce has left lasting scares on the majority of humanity. Now we are coming to a place of higher vibrations...out of the destructive low vibrations of chaos corruption and disorder. I truely believe that the world of humankind is moving in a direction never experienced before in our history.

Many of the pains we are experiencing are indications of how resistant the old system is to the coming inevitable changes. There are more individuals, groups and organizations that are dedicating themselves to promoting positive change in our world. The world is ready...We are ready...

Thank you both for sharing here and please invite others to express their thoughts as well!

I just watched each of the video presentations on this page. They are all very interesting and relevant, however, I must say I completely disagree with Kurt Vonnegut in his assessment that we, as human beings, "have too much information." It is just the opposite, and that is the problem with the world. Those who know nothing are in charge and controlling so many areas of our lives. Those people who know nothing about themselves and even less about everyone and everything are destroying the planet. That is what happened in Cambodia. The Khmer Rouge took over, and the first thing they did was to execute the educated. The same thing is happening in areas of the United States. There are groups of people who fear the educated. They wish to go back to a time when education was confined to the few, the elite at the top of the political and social strata. There was a time in America when an African American could be jailed or killed for knowing how to read, and women were put in insane asylums. The rise in fascism attacks knowledge for the masses. Their fear is so great that they have gone on a campaign to change the text books to reflect their version of history. The Priestess is correct. For her it is a religious issue, but it is also a scientific fact. Their is a science of Metaphysics, which is basically what the Noetic Science people are talking about. It is nothing new. Consciousness and change starts with the individual and then begins to connect with society. No, we do not know too much, we barely know anything at all.

Since I was a child, I seemed to get information from the universe. At that time, the prospects were frightening. It was not until many years later, at a business meeting in Cote D'Ivoire, that I decided to share the information I was receiving with the stranger with whom I was sharing a lunch. I thought,
"The words coming to me are so strong, and they are all about this person whom I've just met! Well, I'm in Africa, and perhaps he won't think I'm a bit crazy." The next morning, I got a somewhat frantic call. It was from that gentleman. All of the incidents I had relayed to him had taken place within 24hrs. Since then, I have learned to recognize that voice which always gives me information during times that I can help others. The one thing I can tell you is that this comes through me, not from me. Yes, there is something else for us as human beings. I also think that it is something that is available to everyone, but to discern that "special voice" is a skill. So far, it has never been wrong. I have helped people with legal situations, health issues etc. I do not use my abilities on a regular basis because I find that many of those you help become dependent and stop trying to deal with things on their own. I agree with brother Wes, we each possess a piece of the essence of the Creator. Once we begin to eliminate the minutia from our consciousness and really feel the universe around us, we will once again tap into the sound of the wind, water and all of the energy forces around us.

Brother Lydell,

What a wonderful flight of fancy! I too believe that we are primarily spiritual beings - a unique lifeform. Yet, somehow I also believe we are far short of our potential. That potential would permit us to do and experience life in a totally different way than we experience today. As we watch the slow death throes of this system of selfishness and greed, may we look forward to tomorrow and the promise it offers of our truly discovering our hidden potential, especially in the area of re-connecting with the Great First Cause, our Creator and Lifegiver. Imagine tapping into the most powerful energy force in the universe and becoming one with our Creator. No longer thinking and weighing and deliberating as to what to do or say - but flowing in the Creators consciousness like the wind, the rivers, the energy forces surrounding this planet, indeed the universe.

We are lost children of the Creator. May we find our way back into that wonderful consciousness we feel in our innermost soul when we listen to the singing of our brothers and sisters attempting to connect us, one to the other. The beginning is near. Fasten your seat belts.

May the Creator bless you and the fine work you are doing to prepare us for the coming world change for the better. Peace and blessings to one and all.
