Schools to Create a New Group called "Biracial"

Apparently, next year the schools in the DC area will designate a new group to children born of parents NOT THE SAME. If you have a White mother and Black father, you will belong to the new group entitled something like "Biracial."

Do you think this is another form of keeping division amongst folks?

The Art of Steven Lopez and Erykah Badu

Steven Lopez - The Artist

"I was fond of art at an early age. When I was 4 years old my mom drew a cartoon character on paper. I nearly passed out from the excitement when she drew it. I remember my grandmother and I would take the bus to the Downtown fashion. I would sit next to the windows and noticed huge murals around the neighborhoods. When I would go to Sunday mass, the local church had a mural that I would look at when I became…

It is time we remember who we are and our ancestral greatness. It is time we took credit for all the creature comforts we have provided to the citizens of this country. We must never forget that virtually all of the wealth enjoyed in these United States came as the result of former slaves doing the bidding of former slave-owners. We must remember that due to miss-education, and segregation Black people have been systematically held back and it is high-time we changed the way we look at things.… Continue

One Small Victory!

My employment site, public elementary school is planning a community day next Saturday. Over a week ago I saw the flyers announcing this event. The flyer featured President Obama's head atop the body of a female image. This particular image is from the early years of women as union members in the work force. The original poster shows a white woman, head wrapped in a bandana, in work clothes and her right arm in a flexed muscle pose type position. Her left hand is drawn over her right muscle area… Continue

Afro-Brazilian Instrument - Berimbau

When Brazilian Latin jazz percussionist, vocalist and berimbau player Nana Vasconcelos was 12-years-old he began playing with his father, a guitarist, and in the city's marching band. Prodded by intense curiosity and an inquisitive ear that led him from the music of Brazil's greatest composer, Villa Lobos, to Jimi Hendrix, Nana came to learn all the Brazilian percussion instruments and, by the early Sixties, came to specialize in the berimbau. He has taken this instrument far beyond its… Continue
