I recieved an email from a very good friend reminding me of the speach by Frederick Douglass about America's "Independence Day" and what it meant to those that it was intended for as well as what it meant for others that were not able to claim true independence. I dare say we should consider the point of his speach and how it applies today! The history of this nation as it has been recorded and taught by educational institutions worldwide, has not done enough to justify celebration by many of it's citizens. Especially it's citizens of color. If we simply take an honest look at where we are as a nation this 4th of July (Independence day), 2011, we will have to consider the state of our independence and sober up to the fact that it is and has been but a dream..."The American Dream"...we are still not free.

Lydell, thanks for this post, I just happened to be listening to a video series by Taj Tarik Bey, that spoke about how Frederick Douglas was used in his day the same way Obama is being used today. He was also the son of a European women...humm?  I'm not an advocate of skin tone politics, however history shows when we open our arms to accept others, we usually end up with one less arm and no legs to stand on.

When will we learn?

Independence, how can we be independent when we have had a second class national status imposed on us?  Governments govern by the CONSENT OF THE PEOPLE,   Did anyone ask you?

Whose Zooming Who???
