What Were Some of Your Memories of the 70's Music?

What were your memories of the 70's?

I was born in Brazil in 1966.

In the early 70's I attended the American School of Brasilia, Brazil and was exposed to Led Zeppelin, AC DC, Kiss, etc... , however, I had an uncle who listened to Jazz and I will never forget when I first heard Billie Holidays' voice. It enveloped me and I was smitten.

There were a few records I had as a 10 year old and I remember The Commodores' "Easy", 1977 and 1978 "Three Times a Lady" song which I used to play over and over and over again. I also had Elvis and the Beatles, which I loved as well... I remember my mom not letting me go see the movie Grease, which was the buzz... but loved listening to the Bee Gees.

In 1979 I spent the year in Sao Paulo at a Seventh Day Adventist boarding school and that is a whole 'nother topic...

In Rio I was deeply touched by Diana Ross and her "Do You Know Where You're Going" To theme song for Mahogany... her music during mid to the late 70's was unforgeatable to me. Not to mention the fact that I was in love and had my first serious boyfriend... LOL

I also remember Donna Summer - "Bad Girls" , Cheryl Lynn and Chic were hot and in parties, I used to think I was cute while jamming to Rolls Royce, Earth, Wind & Fire.... there were so many hits!!

You all here in the U.S. had it all!! I only knew the tip of the iceberg.

Musically speaking I have great memories of great brazilian music as well as from U.S. groups... I knew the songs but did not know the U.S. groups, however.

It wasn't until I came to the U.S. that I had the great experience to get familiar and meet some of these great artists. There were groups I had never heard of but knew their music, such as The Four Tops, The Ojay's, The Temptations to name a few...

Will you share some of your memories?

The Commodores' music is something I remember from the 70's. There's Bobby Womack, The Whispers, Bee Gees...
